Storyboards

Adult Swim ident: Super Sentai Rick – dir. Eimhin McNamara & Pádraig Fagan (2019)

The challenge of boarding this project was setting up a scene and building to a climax in 15 seconds and I needed to pin down a lot of frame to frame action to work across the cuts to match when executed in stopmotion.

An tEarrach Thiar – dir. Eimhin McNamara (2016)

Since light and mood were so important to An tEarrach Thiar’s story the boards here focused on the values in the scene with accents of movement.

Disjointed: Weed Circus High – dir. Eimhin McNamara (2017)

Disjointed Animatic

The approach for boarding Disjointed involved a lot of quick cuts and served as previs for the more complicated stopmotion shots where multiple media were being integrated in several passes.

The Bird & the Whale – dir. Carol Freeman (2016)

The Bird & the Whale Animatic – edit by Carol Freeman with music by Chris McLoughlin

Working with Carol I adapted her script to boards. Since a lot of the film takes place on the open ocean, with little to anchor us to a location, the way the characters move through the world was one of the best ways to build visual depth. I planned through a lot of colour and lighting cues in the boarding stage, seeing how we can best frame the action and characters in interesting ways, transitioning between the surface and into the deep blue sea.

The above was the near final animatic, with the main change being some pacing with additional exploration shots and the substitution of the figurehead scene for the dancing clothes scene, which I also boarded (below).
