For this project, I was asked by Carol Freeman to help put together a funding pitch. We worked together to develop some visual concepts from her story and I fired away breaking down her script into some boards. The last part of the pitch was putting together a little animation proof of concept which I did in a few hours ahead of our submission. Anything we could throw in the sweeten the deal really!
Working with Carol I adapted her script to boards. Since a lot of the film takes place on the open ocean, with little to anchor us to a location, the way the characters move through the world was one of the best ways to build visual depth. I planned the scenes using a lot of colour and lighting cues in the boarding stage, seeing how we can best frame the action and characters in interesting ways, transitioning between the surface and into the deep blue sea.
The above was the near final animatic, with the main change being some pacing with additional exploration shots and the substitution of the figurehead scene for the dancing clothes scene, which I also boarded (below).
